with Anne-Marie McDermott
"...the Imani Winds, who delivered a performance that can only be described as stunningly beautiful and technically amazing. Without a doubt, this ensemble is North America’s premier woodwind quintet." – Cleveland Classical
Imani is a Swahili word meaning "faith," and the Grammy-nominated Imani Wind Quintet has long shown its faith in the future of classical music by commissioning new works from many of today's composers, including Imani's own flutist, Valerie Coleman, whose Tzigane was inspired by the music of the Romani (gypsy) people.
Joining the Quintet is pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, of whom BBC Music Magazine said "McDermott's heart has heft and translucence, structural certainty and seasoned humanity."
Program:
- Coleman—Tzigane
- Moran—Cane
- Mozart—Quintet in E-flat Major for Piano and Winds, K. 452
- Stravinsky—The Rite of Spring (arr. Russell)
- Poulenc—Sextet in C Major for Piano and Wind Quintet, FP 100
